In spring 2018, our volunteer team visited the 4th LOVE FNC school with a group of children in Myanmar. Myanmar is the biggest country in the Indochina peninsula and when compared to the size of South Korea, Myanmar is 6.8 times larger in size. The country has natural resources such as natural gas, petroleum, jewels, and marine resources and it is located in the key point where connects West-Southern Asia; therefore, Myanmar has a all the potential to grow into a developed country.
Yangon was the capital city of Myanmar until 2005 so it is a economically and politically an essential city. Even though Yangon is developing quickly affected by a sudden growth of the country, the city has to deal with the urban poverty due to the migration of people who are looking for jobs. In areas that do not have proper water supply and drainage system and electricity, the people live in entangled houses that is constructed with plastic and reed. This year global volunteering team was composed with Jung Shin Lee from CNBLUE, Seol Hyun Kim from AOA, and FNC executives and staff members. Jung Shin and Seol Hyun have been continuously shared their enthusiasm for the global volunteering. Especially, Jung Shin and Seol Hyun were able to deliver the rice in person that was donated by the CNBLUE and AOA fan clubs.
The team visited Kalaw where the fourth school of LOVE FNC is located. The school is a three-story building painted with a cream color and it is located in the center of the Myanmar. Kalaw is extremely famous for hiking as its an alpine region with 1,320m above sea level. However, for the children in Myanmar, the famous steep roads become a dangerous school route. Despite the braveness those Myanmar children has, it is still quite dangerous.
For students’ safety, LOVE FNC decided to construct a boarding school at the foot of the mountain. It is not easy to live away from the parents, but it is the only solution to attend school safely. Due to the tough circumstances, no student that attend the school in the mountain was able to finish an entire school program. Moreover, most of the parents wanted their children to help them with farming instead of attending school. LOVE FNC volunteer team shared and inspired the parents the importance and value of education. The team visited the town and had an opportunity to talk to the parents to advertise the new school and convince them to allow their children to attend the boarding school. Also, for the children that showed love for Korean culture, the team made kimbap and tteokbokki and had a blessing time with them.
Overall, the trip was successful. Even though we did not do anything major or drastic there, we hope that the children had a special time with us. We also hope that our visit was an opportunity for the parents to support their children’s dream and not give up on their children’s education.
We, the LOVE FNC, are planning to go on another trip to a country that needs support. We will build schools and visit the kids that attend school in that area. We show our appreciation to everyone who supported for us and for the children in Myanmar.
For the world where every children are loved, LOVE FNC
